Beginning with the 2022-2023 school year, the Bandera Independent School District (ISD) Board of Trustees has voted to rezone attendance lines for Alkek Elementary School and Hill Country Elementary School. This decision was made in response to increased enrollment numbers at Alkek Elementary, aimed at alleviating overcrowding and reducing class sizes.
The rezoning affects the following areas:
- Polly Peak
- Bandera River Ranch
- Rohrbach Road
- Castle Lake
- Privilege Creek Road
- Bear Creek Road
- Cielo Rio Subdivision
Residents within these areas will see changes to their assigned elementary schools. Current Alkek Elementary students from these zones will have the option to transfer to Hill Country Elementary. Students who choose to remain at Alkek Elementary may continue there until they complete 5th grade.
New students enrolling in Bandera ISD who are siblings of existing students remaining at Alkek Elementary will be allowed to attend the same school to maintain family continuity. However, if there is a break in enrollment, such as when the last child graduates to middle school, any new child enrolling from that family will attend the rezoned elementary school.
All new students residing in the rezoned areas from the 2022-2023 school year onward will be required to attend the designated elementary school. Bandera ISD will provide transportation to and from both elementary schools for all affected students.
The rezoning order will remain in effect until modified or repealed by the Bandera ISD Board of Trustees.
