On Sunday, August 11, 2024, at 1:33 a.m., Corpus Christi officers were dispatched to an assault in progress at The Ranch Dance Hall located at 4563 Everhart Road. The call notes indicated that a male subject was being assaulted, was on the ground, and was not moving. Upon arrival, officers observed an assault taking place on the side of a building at the corner of Everhart Road and Burney Drive.

Officers witnessed the suspect, an 18-year-old male, produce a handgun while standing over the victim who was on the ground. One officer from the two-man unit engaged the suspect, firing his duty weapon and striking him. The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The victim of the assault was also transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The officer involved in the shooting was not injured and, in accordance with department policy, will be placed on administrative leave.
