Details Released: High-Speed Chase Ends in Officer-Involved Shooting Near Kerrville

In the early hours of Monday, October 15, 2024, a high-speed chase involving multiple law enforcement agencies ended in an officer-involved shooting just outside of Kerrville. The incident began around 1:19 a.m. when Officer Brianna Henson, a one-year veteran of the Kerrville Police Department, attempted to pull over a white Nissan Acura MDX SUV traveling northbound in the 1600 block of Sidney Baker Street. The vehicle, driven by 21-year-old Rosny Josafath Rodriguis-Midence, was observed speeding, lacking license plates, and running a red light.

When Officer Henson activated her patrol vehicle’s emergency lights, Rodriguis-Midence accelerated, refusing to stop. The suspect swerved in and out of lanes, ran two more red lights, and continued to evade law enforcement as he fled north on State Highway 16 at speeds exceeding 120 mph. The pursuit extended beyond the Kerrville city limits into Gillespie County.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., deputies from the Gillespie County Sheriff’s Office deployed tire deflation devices in the 5500 block of State Highway 16. The devices were successful in damaging the suspect's tires, slowing the vehicle as it entered Fredericksburg. Officers from the Fredericksburg Police Department joined the pursuit at this point.

Despite the damaged tires, Rodriguis-Midence continued driving until he lost control of the vehicle in the 1100 block of State Highway 16. The SUV rolled over and came to a stop after crashing. Rodriguis-Midence exited the wrecked vehicle and, without warning, charged directly at Officer Henson. According to law enforcement, the suspect’s rapid approach indicated an impending attack.

Officer Henson, fearing for her safety, discharged her service weapon, shooting Rodriguis-Midence as he closed the distance. Although the suspect was not armed, officers on the scene stated that his aggressive behavior posed an immediate threat. He was identified through documents found in his possession.

The Texas Rangers have taken over the investigation into the shooting, standard procedure for officer-involved incidents. Officer Henson has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the results of the investigation. The Kerrville Police Department and Gillespie County Sheriff’s Office have both expressed their cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
