Corpus Christi Police Arrest Woman in Illegal Gambling Investigation at Game Room

On Thursday afternoon, detectives from the Corpus Christi Police Department's Narcotics and Vice Investigations Division (NVID) executed a search warrant at the Morgan Entertainment Game Room, located at 1302 Morgan Avenue, following a months-long investigation into illegal gambling.

As a result, 64-year-old Rebecca Pelaez was arrested and charged with Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, a state jail felony that carries a potential penalty of up to two years in jail and a $10,000 fine. Pelaez also faces charges for Gambling Promotion, Keeping a Gambling Place, and Possession of a Gambling Device. Additionally, she was cited for violating the Nueces County Game Room ordinance, a Class A misdemeanor.

During the operation, detectives seized a substantial amount of gambling equipment and more than $4,800 in cash. Eight patrons of the game room were issued citations for gambling and released at the scene.

The investigation received support from an agent with the Texas Comptroller's Office, who inspected coin-operated machines on the premises and found no violations.

Corpus Christi Police are continuing their investigation and anticipate additional arrests. They remind the public that game rooms offering cash payouts are illegal, and both patrons and operators of these establishments may face criminal charges.

The department is committed to collaborating with state and federal partners to enforce Texas gambling laws, reduce crime, and enhance the quality of life for residents. Anyone with information about illegal gambling activities is encouraged to contact the Corpus Christi Police Department.
