Fredericksburg Grass Fire Prompts Evacuations, No Containment Reported

On Saturday, March 15, 2025, around 1 p.m., a grass fire broke out near 8700 Lower Crabapple Road, north of downtown Fredericksburg. The fire spread east across Highway 16 North due to strong winds and dry conditions.

The Fredericksburg Fire/EMS Department, with assistance from regional crews, is working to contain the fire. Authorities have advised residents between Highway 16 North and FM 1631, as well as between Ranch Road 1323 and Ranch Road 2721, to prepare for possible evacuation.

Fredericksburg Fire Chief Lynn Bizzell reported that there was no containment as of Saturday afternoon. "Our goal is to stop the forward progress with air support from TDEM and the Texas A&M Forest Service," Bizzell said. "Our crews are also working behind the fire to make sure embers do not cause more fires. Currently, embers are flying up to half a mile and causing more fires in the area."

Law enforcement is present to assist with evacuations. Displaced residents can seek shelter at Faith Baptist Church at 3022 N State Highway 16 or First Baptist Church at 1407 E Main Street in Fredericksburg. Authorities urge residents to stay alert and follow instructions from emergency crews.
