Carjacking of Elderly Woman in Corpus Christi Leads to Arrest in Fayette County


A 70-year-old woman was unharmed after being carjacked at gunpoint on Thursday afternoon in the 5400 block of S. Padre Island Drive.

Corpus Christi Police Department (CCPD) officers responded to a robbery in progress call at approximately 3:35 p.m. The victim reported that a Hispanic male wearing a hunter green shirt and blue jeans approached her in the parking lot, displayed a black handgun, and demanded her belongings, including her car keys. The offender then stole her vehicle and fled the scene.

CCPD officers initiated an investigation, obtaining the vehicle's license plate number and entering it into the state database as stolen. Despite an extensive search, they were unable to locate the vehicle.

Later that evening, the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office located the stolen vehicle and engaged in a pursuit. The driver, identified as 21-year-old Jose Garza, was apprehended in Fayette County, Texas. He was subsequently transported and booked into the Guadalupe County Jail, charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading in a vehicle.

Detectives with the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division are continuing their investigation into the aggravated robbery.
