Bexar County Sheriff’s investigators arrested 23-year-old Damian Flores after a 3-year-old child was found abandoned and unsupervised in an apartment early Saturday morning, April 19, 2025.
Deputies were contacted about the child abandonment case at approximately 1:19 a.m. after the toddler was discovered alone in unsafe conditions. The child’s mother admitted to leaving her son in Flores’ care around 9:30 p.m. while she went out. However, Flores contacted the mother around 10:13 p.m., stating he was leaving the apartment and their child alone.
The mother contacted a friend who confirmed around 10:30 p.m. that the 3-year-old had indeed been left alone. Deputies responded and had medical personnel assess the child. They encountered Damian Flores back at the apartment, brought there by witnesses who found him drinking at a nearby bar.
Witnesses told deputies they tracked Flores to the bar and physically struggled to get him to leave and return to his child. By the time they arrived back at the apartment with Flores, deputies were already on the scene.
Damian Flores was immediately arrested and charged with child abandonment, along with an active warrant for robbery. He was booked into the Bexar County Jail.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office emphasized the dangers of leaving a child unsupervised, calling it a negligent act that endangers a child’s life. They stressed the responsibility of parents and guardians to always protect their children.
