San Antonio International Airport Ranks #2 on Wall Street Journal's Best Midsize Airports for 2023

In a noteworthy achievement, San Antonio International Airport (SAT) has secured the second spot in The Wall Street Journal's (WSJ) annual list of Best Midsize Airports for 2023. Climbing two places from last year's ranking of #4, SAT narrowly missed the top position by less than a point.

The WSJ's U.S. Airport Rankings assess the 50 busiest airports in the nation based on criteria such as reliability, value, and convenience. With an overall score of 70.4, SAT was surpassed only by San José Mineta International Airport in California, which scored 71.2.

Jesus Saenz, the Director of Airports for the San Antonio Airport System, expressed enthusiasm about the achievement, stating, "This is spectacular news about SAT being ranked #2. We are always aiming to be the #1 airport. We are so close! Being ranked second best airport shows we are doing a stellar job serving our travelers. We are so proud of our entire team. Their passion for helping people and our strong partnerships with our airlines help us stand out. We’ve had a phenomenal year. We’re up to 45 nonstop destinations – including our first flights to Europe that start in May 2024."

The WSJ's evaluation encompasses 30 factors, drawing information from government data and traveler surveys to capture the entire travel process, from ticket purchase to destination arrival. The rankings shed light on airports with the most punctual flights, minimal wait times, and favored amenities.

Specifically, SAT earned distinctions in the following categories:

  • #1 for fast security clearance
  • #2 for taxi/ride share
  • #6 for flight cancellation
