The City of Kerrville Parks and Recreation Department is teaming up with NASA to host a free celebration for the 2024 total solar eclipse. On April 8, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Kerrville Eclipse Festival will take place at Louise Hays Park. The eclipse, which will last for 4 minutes and 25 seconds, will reach its peak at 1:32 PM CST.
NASA officials will be present to capture the event for a national broadcast. The festival will also feature a performance by American folk band Judah and the Lion.
While excitement mounts for this rare celestial event, organizers are prioritizing safety for attendees. With an expected surge in traffic, the festival team, along with local authorities, is providing helpful tips for a smooth experience:
- Cash: Bring cash due to potential network disruptions affecting credit card transactions.
- Carpool or Rideshare: Consider carpooling or ridesharing to ease congestion, aiming to arrive before 11 a.m.
- Eyewear: Protect your eyes with ISO-certified eclipse glasses, available at Kerrville City Hall and Kerrville-Schreiner Park.
- Printed Materials: Print maps, directions, and reservations beforehand.
- Comfortable Clothing: Dress appropriately and wear comfortable shoes.
- Extra Travel Time: Expect delays and pack essentials like water, food, and entertainment.
- Event Gear: Bring chairs and blankets for seating but avoid bringing tents.
- Food: Bring snacks and consider food vendors at the festival.
- Stay Hydrated: Carry a reusable water bottle and extra water in your vehicle.
