Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Bust in Gillespie County

In Gillespie County, Texas, a routine traffic stop led to a significant drug bust on Tuesday night. A deputy pulled over a vehicle around 11:03 p.m. on April 2, 2024, along the 1500 block of West US Highway for speeding, clocking the vehicle at 75 mph in a 60-mph zone.

Upon approaching the vehicle, the deputy detected the smell of marijuana emanating from inside. Upon questioning, the driver, accompanied by another male occupant, admitted to possessing marijuana. Subsequently, a search of the vehicle was conducted, revealing multiple pre-packaged THC items and other marijuana products.

The combined weight of the seized THC products totaled approximately 644 grams, while the marijuana amounted to roughly 3 ounces. The items were reportedly purchased in New Mexico.

The driver, a 24-year-old resident of Elgin, TX, took responsibility for the illegal substances. Consequently, he was arrested and charged with Possession of marijuana exceeding 2 ounces but less than 4 ounces, as well as Possession of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 2, which involves quantities greater than or equal to 400 grams.

Meanwhile, the 25-year-old passenger, lacking a valid driver’s license, was transported to a nearby convenience store to arrange for alternative transportation.
