San Antonio International Airport (SAT) launched Earth Day with an innovative collaboration involving The Good Traveler program and the San Antonio River Foundation, accompanied by an educational fair for travelers. This unique carbon offset initiative enables travelers to diminish their carbon footprint by contributing to a local nonprofit organization.
Breana Trevino, Sustainability Special Projects Manager at SAT, expressed, "SAT chose to support the San Antonio River Foundation since the San Antonio River is a focal point for our culture, tourism, and community. To participate, eco-conscious travelers can visit The Good Traveler website and make a tax-deductible donation that offsets their flight."
In SAT's Baggage Claim area, the San Antonio River Foundation disseminated information regarding ongoing endeavors to safeguard the San Antonio River. The event also welcomed representatives from various entities, including the City’s Solid Waste Management Department, San Antonio Parks & Recreation Department, Texas Master Gardeners, San Antonio Zoo, and Texas Master Naturalist – Alamo Area Chapter.
Frates Seeligson, Director of the San Antonio River Foundation, emphasized the organization's commitment to outreach, sustainability, and river restoration projects. "We are so appreciative to SAT and The Good Traveler for sharing our vision of inspiring stewardship of our most precious resource," he stated. "Whether you are a visitor or you call San Antonio home, the river brings us all together. Through this partnership, we all can make a positive impact on the health and vibrancy of the San Antonio River."
