San Antonio Sets National Standard in Resident Satisfaction

The results of the City of San Antonio’s 2024 Community Satisfaction & Budget Priority Survey show record-breaking resident satisfaction in city services. The survey revealed an all-time high satisfaction rating of 87 percent in overall city services, a significant increase from previous years—74 percent in 2022 and 64 percent in 2018.

“The 2024 results of the community survey demonstrate that the City of San Antonio has continued moving in the right direction in recent years,” said City Manager Erik Walsh. “Customer service remains our focus, and the survey data will help us determine community priorities to invest our efforts and resources in the upcoming fiscal year budget. I would like to thank our more than 13,000 City employees who are deeply committed to our customers, our City residents.”

The survey, conducted by ETC Institute, Inc., sampled over 1,000 residents across the city's 10 Council districts, ensuring demographic representation in terms of age, gender, race/ethnicity, and other factors.

“The results of the survey show that the City is investing in services that are important to its residents,” said Chris Tatham, CEO of the ETC Institute. “For example, the ranking of infrastructure as a top priority for investment, coupled with the leap in satisfaction in the overall quality of Public Works services, shows that the City listens to its residents and delivers accordingly.”

San Antonio's satisfaction ratings are significantly above the national average. Customer service satisfaction in San Antonio stands at 88 percent compared to the national average of 32 percent. Overall city services satisfaction is at 87 percent, well above the national average of 41 percent. Resident satisfaction increased in 21 of the 25 areas assessed, with the largest increase in the overall quality of Public Works services, which jumped from 54 percent in 2022 to 78 percent in 2024.

The survey highlighted residents’ top priorities for the Fiscal Year 2025 budget:

  1. Streets
  2. Homeless encampment cleanups
  3. Services to assist the homeless
  4. Sidewalks

San Antonio conducts a Community Survey through an independent consultant every two years to assess resident satisfaction, engagement, and communication levels. Previous surveys were conducted in 2018 and 2022, with no survey in 2020 due to the pandemic.
