On Monday, July 8, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Victoria Police Department officers responded to the 600 block of East Water Street in reference to a vehicle crash. Upon arrival, officers observed a white Ford Expedition that had damaged a nearby fence. Through preliminary investigation, officers determined the Expedition lost control, struck the fence, and came to a stop in a resident’s yard where the passenger then fled the scene.
A female driver was located in the vehicle with life-threatening injuries unrelated to the crash. After attempting life-saving measures by VPD officers and Victoria Fire Department’s EMS, the female succumbed to her injuries. The passenger has been located and is in police custody. He has been identified as 20-year-old Trevon Anthony Martinez and is being charged with murder. This is an isolated incident involving family violence.
The victim has been identified as 45-year-old Virginia Ann Martinez.
