On Monday, August 12, 2024, 437th District Court Judge Joel Perez sentenced Michael Palafos to 50 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for the murder of Allison Cevallos and her unborn child.
On October 23, 2023, Michael Palafos shot his 16-weeks-pregnant girlfriend, Allison Cevallos, resulting in her death. Palafos admitted to pulling the trigger but provided conflicting statements during the investigation, claiming the shooting was accidental and occurred during a struggle over the gun. Instead of seeking immediate medical help, Palafos attempted to dispose of the weapon and later informed his parents, who contacted the police. EMS transported the victim to SAMMC, where both Cevallos and her unborn child were pronounced dead despite efforts to save them.
The case was prosecuted by the Family Violence Division of the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney's Office. Assistant Criminal District Attorney Kaytlyn Knowles led the prosecution, with support from Investigator Rudy Rangel and Crime Victims' Advocate Alex Ornelas.
Bexar County Criminal District Attorney Joe D. Gonzales stated, "The actions of Michael Palafos are inexcusable and have resulted in the loss of two innocent lives. Our office is committed to ensuring justice for victims of family violence, and this sentence reflects our dedication to holding offenders accountable."
