The New Braunfels Police Department and the New Braunfels Fire Department are currently on scene at the City of New Braunfels Recycle Center located in the 300 block of Butcher Street following the discovery of a suspected military ordnance. The object was dropped off along with other recyclable items, but its presence eventually raised concerns among staff, prompting them to alert authorities.
In response, the Recycle Center and the City Municipal Facility at 424 South Castell Avenue have been temporarily evacuated as a precaution. A specialized crew from Lackland Air Force Base is en route to safely secure and remove the object from the area.
South Castell Avenue is currently closed from Butcher Street to Coll Street. City employees and residents within a 500-foot radius of the evacuation area are being relocated to the New Braunfels Civic/Convention Center on Seguin Avenue. The Emergency Alert Notification system, often referred to as Reverse 911, is being activated to notify affected residents in the vicinity.
There have been no reported injuries among civilians or emergency personnel. The road and facility closures are expected to last for 2 to 3 hours, and drivers are advised to seek alternate routes to avoid delays.
