In a major development regarding an alleged sexual assault case, the Kerr County Sheriff's Office successfully apprehended a fugitive and detained an alleged accomplice after a comprehensive investigation.
On June 14, 2023, the Kerr County Sheriff's Office received information concerning the alleged sexual assault of a 16-year-old child within Kerr County. Acting swiftly, investigators from the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) launched a thorough inquiry into the matter. Their diligent efforts resulted in the issuance of an arrest warrant for Felix Barron, a 30-year-old resident of Ingram.
However, upon the warrant's issuance, it was discovered that Mr. Barron had fled to Mexico in an attempt to evade prosecution. Further investigations conducted jointly by the Criminal Investigations Division and the Special Operations Division (SOD) unveiled the alleged involvement of Mr. Barron's wife, Valeriana Roach Sanmiguel Barron, 34, also a resident of Ingram, in aiding his flight from justice.
After engaging in a protracted negotiation with the Kerr County Sheriff's Office CID and SOD, Felix Barron ultimately surrendered himself to the Department of Homeland Security Investigations at the US Border Patrol station located in Val Verde County. He was subsequently booked into the Kerr County Jail, with his bond set at $250,000.
Valeriana Roach Sanmiguel Barron, suspected of hindering the apprehension or prosecution of a felon, was promptly arrested. She was booked into the Kerr County Jail, with bond set at $50,000.
Felix Barron and Valeriana Roach Sanmiguel Barron have a long history of criminal activity, primarily related to burglary and theft offenses in Kerr County.
Barron is being charged with online solicitation of a minor under 14 and sexual asssault of a child.
Sheriff Larry Leitha commended the relentless dedication exhibited by the CID and SOD teams in their pursuit of justice for the victim. "Our CID and SOD teams worked day and night to begin the process of getting justice for this victim," stated Sheriff Leitha. "With the nature of this case, it was imperative that this suspect was taken off the streets. In our Office, fleeing the state or even leaving the country will never stop our pursuit of justice. The CID and SOD investigators working this case, along with our Warrants Division, delivered exactly the outcome we hoped to achieve. Everyone is safe, and a wanted fugitive is in custody. We also appreciate The Department of Homeland Security for their assistance in this case."
