In the early hours of November 5, 2024, Hondo Police Department officers responded to a structure fire at Hondo Attic Self Storage on 18th Street. Flames engulfed multiple storage units, but the coordinated efforts of the Hondo Fire Department and D’Hanis Fire Department quickly contained the fire, preventing further damage.
A criminal investigation, led by Hondo PD’s Criminal Investigation Division and the Medina County Fire Marshal, identified 40-year-old Gregory Gerstner as a suspect through video surveillance. Gerstner was initially arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal trespass.
Following further investigation, detectives secured an arson warrant, which was served to Gerstner in the Medina County Jail.
