A man was found deceased in a vehicle on Sunday, November 24, 2024, after an off-duty Corpus Christi Independent School District (CCISD) officer fired shots during an attempted theft arrest.
At approximately 4:45 PM, CCPD responded to a call for backup from the off-duty officer at the 1800 block of S. Padre Island Drive. The officer had made contact with a suspect in a vehicle, believed to be involved in a theft at a nearby store. During the interaction, the officer was dragged from the vehicle as it attempted to flee. Shots were fired by the officer, but the vehicle continued to drive away and ended up in a nearby field.
Upon arriving at the scene, CCPD used drones to assess the situation and discovered the suspect deceased inside the vehicle. The officer sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
