Suspicious Vehicle Incident Leads to 46-Mile Pursuit and Arrest in Fredericksburg

In the early hours of Tuesday, November 26, 2024, a 46-mile high-speed pursuit ended with the arrest of a 26-year-old Richmond man following an incident involving a Texas Game Warden and a Gillespie County Sheriff's deputy.

At approximately 1:09 a.m., a Texas Game Warden encountered a suspicious vehicle with its lights off in the 300 block of Gellerman Lane. When a responding deputy arrived, the driver was uncooperative, refusing to exit the vehicle despite concerns of possible intoxication.

As the deputy attempted to assist the driver out of the vehicle, the man grabbed the deputy’s arm and began pulling him inside while starting the vehicle. The deputy delivered strikes through the window to prevent being dragged as the driver sped away, initiating a pursuit.

The chase reached speeds of 110 mph, with the driver repeatedly driving into oncoming traffic and disregarding traffic controls. The pursuit spanned Fredericksburg, Stonewall, and Johnson City before concluding at the Blanco County Law Enforcement Center parking lot.

The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. Deputies located a loaded handgun under the passenger seat and a loaded rifle in the vehicle.

The man was transported to Gillespie County Jail and charged with Assault on a Peace Officer, Interfere with Public Duties, Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle, Reckless Driving, and Unlawful Carrying a Weapon.
