On Thursday, December 19, a tragic incident occurred at the Excel Montessori School near 27521 I-10 in unincorporated Bexar County, TX, leaving one teacher dead and multiple children injured.
Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar reported that a parent, after placing her children into her vehicle, suddenly accelerated after suffering a medical episode. The vehicle struck another in the parking lot, sending both through a fence and into an outdoor play area where students were present.
Emergency crews found several individuals trapped beneath the vehicles upon arrival. Firefighters and paramedics worked to extricate the victims and provide advanced life support.
The deceased was identified as 22-year-old Alexia Rosales, a teacher at the school. Five injured victims, all 1-year-old children attending the daycare, were transported to area trauma centers for treatment. Three other individuals refused transportation for further medical care.
Multiple agencies, including Bexar County ESD 4 Fire Rescue, Kendall County EMS, Acadian Ambulance, and law enforcement from Bexar and Kendall Counties, responded to the scene.
“We are grateful for the swift and coordinated efforts of our fire department team and partner agencies,” said Fire Chief Ramon. “Our primary focus was to ensure the safety of all individuals involved and to limit any further loss of life.”
The crash remains under investigation by local authorities.
