New Braunfels Names New Police Chief After Extensive National Search

Chief Osbaldo Flores

The City of New Braunfels has named Osbaldo Flores as the next Chief of Police for the New Braunfels Police Department (NBPD) following a comprehensive national search.

Flores, currently serving as Assistant Chief with the Arlington Police Department, brings over 27 years of law enforcement experience. His leadership has spanned key areas such as Patrol, Recruiting, Community Engagement, Behavioral Health, and Crime Analysis, while managing a $25 million budget. His expertise in tourism-focused policing within Arlington's sports and entertainment district aligns with New Braunfels' needs as a destination city.

The selection process involved 39 applicants, 18 of whom submitted screening videos addressing critical law enforcement challenges like officer recruitment, retention, and resource management. Two review panels—one comprised of NBPD personnel and another including representatives from City Administration, Human Resources, and the Fire Department—narrowed the pool to eight finalists. Flores emerged as the top candidate after interviews.

Flores’ appointment will go before the New Braunfels City Council for confirmation during their February 24 meeting.
