Seven Officers Injured in San Antonio Standoff; Suspect Found Deceased

Brandon Scott Poulos

On January 22, 2025, just before 8:30 p.m., San Antonio Police officers responded to a report of a suicide in progress at the Sonterra Heights Apartments in the 18700 block of Stone Oak Parkway.

As officers arrived, the suspect, identified as 46-year-old Brandon Scott Poulos, opened fire, injuring seven officers. SWAT was called to the scene, and Poulos barricaded himself inside the apartment for several hours.

After the standoff, officers made entry and found Poulos deceased. San Antonio Police Chief William McManus stated it is unclear whether the suspect died from a self-inflicted wound or from gunfire exchanged with officers earlier.

Poulos had been arrested on January 18, 2025, for two assault charges and one charge of driving while intoxicated.

Six of the injured officers have since been released from the hospital to recover at home. One officer remains hospitalized but is expected to make a full recovery.

Authorities expressed gratitude for the community's support and asked for continued thoughts and prayers for the injured officers and their families. The investigation is ongoing.
