Medina County ESD 1 has announced the hiring of Division Chief Kevin Story to oversee fire and rescue operations within the newly expanded boundaries of Medina County ESD 6, which includes the City of Hondo.
The expansion of services requires additional staff, and Medina County ESD 6 had already begun recruiting for a leadership position. Chief Story, who brings 35 years of fire service experience, was hired after a coordinated recruitment effort between ESD 1 and ESD 6.
Chief Story began his career with the Houston Fire Department in 1990, retiring as a Captain in 2019. Throughout his career, he has maintained active membership in various local volunteer fire departments, a factor that allows him to connect with the motivations of the volunteer firefighters in Medina County.
He holds certifications in Advanced Structural Firefighting, Advanced Arson Investigation, and Fire Instruction with the Texas Commission on Fire Protection. Additionally, he is certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement as a Peace Officer. Chief Story most recently served as the County Fire Marshal in Goliad County, where he played an instrumental role in assisting volunteer fire departments with equipment and responses.
Chief Story will officially begin his role on Monday, February 10, and is eager to call Medina County home with his wife and their horses. Medina County ESD 1 is excited to welcome Chief Story and looks forward to his leadership in ESD 6.
