Gabriel Cecilio Osorio, 22, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after an investigation into fentanyl-laced pill distribution that began with a 2022 overdose in Hays County.
The case began in the fall of 2022 when Hays County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an overdose involving a 17-year-old victim who survived. The investigation led to Osorio, who resided in Austin, prompting the Hays County Sheriff’s Office to seek assistance from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
Between May and June 2023, DEA agents conducted two controlled purchases from Osorio, obtaining 100 pills in the first transaction and 3,000 pills in the second. On June 22, 2023, agents arrested Osorio outside his residence with approximately 5,000 fentanyl-laced pills. A subsequent search of his home uncovered an additional 3,700 pills, a money counter, a digital scale, four firearms, and $45,701 in cash.
In addition to his prison sentence, Osorio was ordered to forfeit the seized cash, firearms, and assorted jewelry.
The case was investigated by the Hays County Sheriff’s Office, DEA, Texas Department of Public Safety, Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office, Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, and Georgetown Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel Castillo prosecuted the case.
