Grand Jury Indicts Woman for Felony Animal Cruelty in San Antonio

On February 10, 2025, the Bexar County District Attorney's Office secured an indictment against Havannah Dejonet Miller, 23, for Felony Animal Cruelty by Torture.

The indictment stems from a widely circulated video showing Miller striking her three-month-old toy poodle, Thanos, over 15 times as the puppy cowered and cried. Prosecutors allege her actions meet the definition of felony animal cruelty by torture under the Texas Penal Code.

A concerned citizen recorded the incident and reported it to authorities, leading to an investigation by the San Antonio Police Department and Animal Care Services. The case was presented to a Grand Jury in less than a month and is now pending trial in the 187th District Court.

Felony Animal Cruelty is a state jail offense punishable by 180 days to two years in a state jail facility and a fine of up to $10,000.

Bexar County Criminal District Attorney Joe Gonzales stated, "The District Attorney's office appreciates the outpouring of communication and concern from citizens in our community and those around the country. I want everyone to know that our office will not tolerate animal cruelty and will fight for justice against those who torture defenseless animals."
