Man Who Shot Three San Antonio Police Officers Sentenced to 45 Years in Prison

On February 19, 2025, in the 437th District Court, 29-year-old Jesse Garcia Jr. entered pleas to 10 felony charges, including 5 counts of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer and 2 counts of Aggravated Robbery. Judge Joel Perez convicted Garcia and sentenced him to 45 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division, with all cases running concurrently. He will be required to serve at least half of his sentence before he becomes eligible for parole.

Many of the charges stem from a crime spree on August 24, 2023, during which Garcia car-jacked an individual, fired a rifle at officers pursuing him in a high-speed chase, and later barricaded himself in an apartment.

Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Neal Cordero, Clayton Hayden, and Nicholas Mahrou led the prosecution, with support from Investigator Mario Esparza and Crime Victim Advocate Rachel Garcia of the Criminal Trial Division.

Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales stated, "Jesse Garcia, Jr. will have 45 years behind bars to consider the consequences of his actions. It is our hope that holding him accountable with this substantial prison sentence will bring some sense of justice to the brave officers who risked their lives in apprehending this defendant that day."
