On April 10, 2025, Kacie Lynn Paulk, 41, was sentenced to four years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division for Misapplication of Fiduciary Property >=$30K<$150K, a third-degree felony. The sentencing by Judge Kirsten Cohoon of the 451st Judicial District Court followed Paulk's embezzlement of funds from her employer, Brady's Auto Repair.
Paulk, who served as the office manager at Brady's Auto Repair in Boerne, Texas, misappropriated approximately $60,839 from the company. This was achieved through the forgery of 57 checks drawn from the company's bank account, all made payable to herself. These unauthorized transactions occurred between July 7, 2022, and January 17, 2024.
The investigation commenced on January 6, 2024, after Brady's Auto Repair owner, Mark Belden, reported the initial discovery of a forged check to the Boerne Police Department. Detective Amy Taylor's subsequent investigation uncovered Paulk's extensive fraudulent activity, revealing numerous forged checks made out to Paulk and deposited into her personal bank account. Belden confirmed that he was the sole authorized signatory on the business account and had not authorized any checks to Paulk.
A pre-sentencing investigation report prepared by Kendall County Adult Probation Officer Paul Saldivar detailed Paulk's prior criminal history, which included a 2006 conviction for Forgery of a Financial Instrument in Corpus Christi. The report indicated a total of seven felony convictions for Paulk. Probation Officer Saldivar had recommended a six-year prison sentence.
During the sentencing hearing, Paulk requested probation. However, Judge Kirsten Cohoon, considering the severity of the offense, the significant financial loss to Brady's Auto Repair, and Paulk's extensive felony record, imposed a sentence of four years of imprisonment.
The Boerne Police Department conducted a thorough investigation, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Alessandra Deike on behalf of the State of Texas.
