In a successful operation targeting drug trafficking, the Kerr County Sheriff's Office Special Operations Division apprehended a suspect in Kerrville on June 29, 2023. The arrest came after a conversation between law enforcement and a male subject in the San Antonio area, who agreed to sell a significant quantity of methamphetamine in Kerr County.
Following the agreement, two male individuals traveled to Kerrville and made contact with investigators to complete the transaction. However, their plans were thwarted when the vehicle they were traveling in was stopped, and both subjects were detained by authorities. During the subsequent search of the vehicle, law enforcement officers from the Texas Department of Public Safety K9 unit detected the presence of illegal substances.
Upon further inspection, the search revealed a substantial cache of illicit drugs, including 10.6 ounces of methamphetamine, 46.8 grams of cocaine, and 9.4 ounces of marijuana. In addition to the narcotics, a .40 caliber handgun was also discovered within the vehicle. The passenger of the vehicle, identified as Anthony David Rayos Castro, 25, a resident of Elmendorf, Texas, was arrested and now faces multiple charges.
Castro has been charged with Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance PG1 >=200G<400G, Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance PG1>=4G<200G, Possession of Marijuana, and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon. He was subsequently booked into the Kerr County Jail, with bonds totaling $107,000. Moreover, a subsequent investigation unveiled an active arrest warrant from Bexar County for previous drug-related offenses.
Sheriff Larry Leitha praised the work of the Special Operations Division and emphasized their commitment to making Kerr County a less favorable environment for drug dealers. "Our SOD team continues to make Kerr County a riskier place to deal drugs," stated Sheriff Leitha. He expressed his appreciation for the diligent efforts of the SOD deputies involved in the operation, as well as the invaluable assistance provided by the Texas DPS K9 unit. The Sheriff highlighted that the SOD and interdiction teams work tirelessly to combat the influx of illegal drugs into the community.
