Multi-Vehicle Collision on State Highway 27 Claims Life of Kerrville Resident

On Thursday, July 20, 2023, at approximately 11:06 a.m., a devastating traffic collision occurred on the 2600 block of State Highway 27, Junction Highway, resulting in the loss of a life and minor injuries to three other individuals.

According to an initial investigation conducted by Kerrville Police, the collision involved four vehicles. It appears that a Chevrolet Silverado pickup, traveling on Blue Ridge Road, made a left turn onto Junction Highway, heading east. Regrettably, it collided with a Toyota Corolla sedan that was traveling west on Junction Highway in the inside lane. Following the initial impact, a Ford transit van, also traveling westbound, attempted to change lanes to avoid the accident but ended up colliding with the Chevrolet pickup. Tragically, during the crash, a spare tire dislodged from the underside of the Chevrolet truck and struck a fourth vehicle that was stationary at the stop sign on Blue Ridge Road.

Emergency services, including Kerrville Police and Kerrville Fire EMS, quickly responded to the scene. The drivers of the three involved vehicles were transported to Peterson Regional Medical Center (PRMC) by ground ambulance to receive treatment for what is believed to be minor injuries.

The driver of the Toyota Corolla, identified as Bruce Rische, a 71-year-old Kerrville resident, was not as fortunate. Despite prompt medical attention, Mr. Rische was pronounced dead at the scene by a Justice of the Peace.

As of now, no further information has been released regarding the condition of the other injured parties. The investigation into the crash is still in its early stages, and Kerrville Police are working diligently to determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the collision.
