In a significant effort to address the issue of community and feral cat overpopulation, the City of Hondo Animal Care Services has officially initiated its Trap Neuter Return (TNR) program. The initiative aims to curb the rising numbers of stray cats in problematic areas throughout the city while ensuring the safe return of personal pets.
With the support of local authorities and animal welfare organizations, Hondo's TNR program seeks to implement humane and effective strategies to manage the community cat population. As part of this initiative, visible signs will be posted in areas where the TNR efforts are being conducted to inform residents about the ongoing activities.
The TNR process involves capturing feral cats, neutering or spaying them to prevent further reproduction, and then returning them to their original territory. This approach is widely recognized as a humane and environmentally-friendly method to control feline populations without resorting to euthanasia.
City officials are urging residents to cooperate with the program and make sure their personal pets wear City Registration tags at all times. These tags will serve as identification and ensure a swift and safe return of pets if accidentally trapped during the TNR efforts.
