On Thursday, July 27, at approximately 8:48 p.m., an officer witnessed a traffic violation committed by a vehicle's driver at Mile Marker 509 on IH 10 W. The officer promptly initiated a traffic stop, and the vehicle exited the interstate at the 508 exit, eventually coming to a halt in the 2200 block of Sidney Baker.
Upon making contact with the driver, identified as Dewayne Edward Thompson from New Braunfels, officers were taken aback to discover that he was an off-duty Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) agent. Unfortunately, their interaction with Thompson took a concerning turn when he displayed clear symptoms of intoxication.
In an effort to confirm their suspicions, the officers conducted Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, which appeared to substantiate their initial concerns. Consequently, Thompson was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI).
In the course of searching Thompson's vehicle following his arrest, law enforcement officials uncovered an open container of alcohol as well as two firearms. The discovery of the firearms led to the additional charge of Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon.
Following the arrest, Thompson was taken into custody and transported to the Kerr County Jail, where he was booked for the DWI and Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon charges. He will be held pending bond, awaiting further legal proceedings.
