Austin Police Appeals to Community for Assistance in Unsolved Homicide Case of Camnik Campbell

The Austin Police Department's (APD) Homicide Unit is reaching out to the community on the first anniversary of Camnik Eugene Campbell's tragic death, as they continue their efforts to find those responsible for his killing. Campbell, 28, was found deceased near Barton Springs Pool on August 25, 2022, and despite a year of investigation, the case remains unsolved.

Detectives have worked tirelessly to piece together the events leading up to Campbell's death, but a motive has yet to be established. The investigation, though active, has not produced any substantial leads, leaving the community in a state of uncertainty.

Camnik Campbell was discovered on a Thursday morning around 7:13 a.m. after APD officers responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle near Barton Springs Pool at 2201 Barton Springs Rd. The officers found Campbell's lifeless body, and he was officially pronounced dead at 7:42 a.m. by Dr. Escott. The subsequent investigation determined that Campbell had been shot, marking a tragic end to a young life.

Despite the lack of an identified motive, authorities believe this to be an isolated incident, and there is no perceived threat to the wider public. To further bolster public safety, APD announced an increase in patrols across city parks, emphasizing the commitment to preventing such crimes.

On this solemn anniversary, the APD is once again urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward and assist in shedding light on the circumstances of Campbell's death. Those with potential leads can reach out to the APD Homicide Unit at 512-974-TIPS. Anonymous tips are also welcomed and can be provided through the Crime Stoppers tip line at 512-472-8477 (TIPS), via the Crime Stoppers App, or by emailing homicide.apd@austintexas.gov.
