On Sunday, August 27, 2023, at approximately 4:00 pm, officers from the Hondo Police Department responded to a distressing incident involving a family at Medina Regional Hospital. An adult male and an adult female were brought to the hospital with apparent stab wounds. It was revealed that the victims, a husband and wife, had been assaulted by their juvenile child.
Following this shocking revelation, law enforcement swiftly took action. The Hondo Police Department's Patrol Officers were assisted by the Criminal Investigation Division and the Medina County Sheriff's Office. Efforts were made to establish contact with the juvenile suspect, but all attempts proved unsuccessful, leading to a unique solution.
In an attempt to peacefully resolve the situation, a drone was deployed to inspect the family's residence at the Tuscany Apartments, located on 2208 14th Street in Hondo, Texas. Despite these efforts, when all other options were exhausted, law enforcement entered the apartment.
Inside the apartment, officers discovered the juvenile male suspect had taken his own life with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Hondo Police Department's Crime Scene Unit took over the scene to conduct a thorough investigation.
The husband and wife were critically injured and had to be transported to a hospital in San Antonio for medical treatment. In response to the incident, Hondo Police Chief Justin Soza communicated with Hondo ISD Superintendent Mrs. Rose Mary Mares. Mrs. Mares is arranging for counselors to be available at schools on Monday to support students affected by the tragedy.
