Series of Events Leads to Deadly Hit-and-Run Crash Involving Motorcycle in Austin

On Saturday, September 9, 2023, at around 9:44 p.m., the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a devastating crash on the 10500 block of North MoPac Expressway SB. The incident resulted in the loss of a motorcyclist's life.

Preliminary findings from the investigation suggest that a pick-up truck collided with a guardrail, scattering debris across the roadway. Tragically, a southbound motorcycle struck some of the scattered debris, causing the rider to lose control and fall onto the road. In a horrifying turn of events, another pick-up truck then struck the fallen motorcyclist before fleeing the scene without stopping.

The incident marks Austin's 64th fatal crash of 2023, resulting in 67 tragic fatalities this year alone. Comparatively, on the same date in 2022, there were 71 fatal crashes that resulted in 73 lives lost.
