Woman Shot in Bandera County, Suspect Apprehended After Walmart Standoff

On September 16, 2023, at 7:49 pm, Bandera County Deputies responded to a shooting call on Lakeshore Lane in Lake Medina Shores, where a woman had been shot and was found lying in her front yard. Bandera County Chief Deputy Matt King reported that the suspect fled the scene on a motorcycle or dirt-bike, initiating a pursuit that led through Bandera County and into Bexar County. The pursuit remained at a low speed, with the suspect traveling at approximately 50 mph.

The chase eventually reached the Walmart parking lot in the 8300 block of Hwy. 16, situated between Helotes and Leon Valley, with several law enforcement agencies joining the pursuit. Inside the store, the suspect took cover and discharged a shotgun at a deputy who had entered the premises. In response, the deputy returned fire, striking the suspect in the left arm. The suspect then exited the store through a shopping cart entrance and was subsequently apprehended in the back parking lot.

The suspect, a 34-year-old man, has been charged with first-degree murder. Both the victim and the suspect shared a residence and had two children, aged 2 and 5, who are currently under the custody of Child Protective Services (CPS).

Texas Rangers and Bexar County deputies are now leading the ongoing investigation into the incident.
