The Headwaters Groundwater Conservation District (HGCD) announced on Wednesday that it will revert to Stage 3 Water Conservation measures, effective immediately, after operating under Stage 4 restrictions since early August.
This decision comes following the City of Kerrville's move to Stage 4 water conservation measures on August 24. The city capitalized on the reduced water demand during this period to perform essential maintenance on two of its groundwater wells and one Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) well. Such maintenance work is typically scheduled for the winter months, but the decline in water demand accelerated these efforts.
After inspecting two of the pumps and the column pipe, it was determined that new column pipes and pumps were required. The City of Kerrville is actively working with a pump supply provider to secure the necessary materials for this maintenance. As a result, the city will continue to remain in Stage 4 water conservation measures until a satisfactory solution has been implemented, expected to be within the next few weeks.
