A loss of pressure in the water system has led to a boil water notice affecting more than 1,000 customers in Kerr and Bandera counties.
Texas Water Utilities announced a boil water notice for Verde Park Estates in Kerr County before noon on Monday in a press release. A boil water notice was previously issued for Enchanted River Estates and Lake Medina Shores in Bandera County.
Due to a loss of pressure in the distribution system, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the Verde Park Estates water system, Enchanted River Estates water system, and Lake Medina Shores water system “to notify all customers to boil their water prior to consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc),” the releases read.
That affects about 70 customers in Verde Park, 160 customers in Enchanted River Estates and 1,070 customers in Lake Medina Shores.
Children, seniors and people with weakened immune systems are especially susceptible to harmful bacteria and are urged to comply with the notice.
“To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes,” the news releases state. “The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.”
Water users affected by the notice can also purchase bottled water or use another suitable source of drinking water.
The notice will be in effect until water sample testing indicates that water is safe for consumption, officials said.
