Bandera County Deputy Iliana Moreno has successfully graduated from the Texas Department of Public Safety Academy, marking her accomplishment as one of the 79 new Texas Highway Patrol Troopers from recruit class C-2023. The graduation ceremony took place on Friday, Dec. 8, at Great Hills Baptist Church in Austin.
Class C-2023 is an Advanced Peace Officer School, indicating that each recruit possesses prior law enforcement experience. Out of the 85 Trooper Trainees initially selected for the department’s 174th class, 79 successfully completed the 14-week school that commenced on September 5.
Throughout the in-resident Academy, Trooper Trainees underwent over 430 hours of instruction covering a range of topics, including criminal and traffic law enforcement, crash investigation, crisis intervention, use of force, criminal investigations, communications, cultural diversity, fitness and wellness, and emergency medical assistance. Additionally, they received training in Tactical Emergency Casualty Care, encompassing trauma assessment, bleeding control, and treatment of shock, preparing them for duties as Highway Patrol Troopers across the diverse terrains of the state.
The keynote address at the graduation ceremony was delivered by Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, who expressed his consistent support for the brave men and women entering the Texas Highway Patrol. Patrick commended their commitment to upholding the law and safeguarding the rights of every Texan, emphasizing the significance of the Department of Public Safety in maintaining community safety and security.
DPS Director Steven McCraw also extended congratulations, stating, "We are honored that these 79 men and women have chosen to continue to serve as members of the Texas Highway Patrol. I know they will be tremendous assets to the department and help protect and serve the great people of the State of Texas."
Recognizing Deputy Moreno's achievement, the Bandera County Sheriff's Office conveyed their pride and best wishes. "We will miss her greatly but are incredibly proud of her success. Many blessings Trooper Moreno!" the BCSO stated in a statement.
