On Saturday, December 16th, 2023, at approximately 4:49 a.m., Kerrville Police Department (KPD) officers responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at an apartment in the 2100 block of Singing Wind Drive. The caller, identified as Ashley Alyce Castillo, 26, informed officers that a person had been shot and requested emergency medical services (EMS).

Upon arrival, officers encountered 22-year-old Damon Anthony Michael Tampke inside the apartment, who had sustained a gunshot wound to the head. A handgun was found at the scene. Kerrville EMS transported Tampke to Peterson Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Evidence collected during the initial investigation suggested that the gunshot wound was not self-inflicted. Following further inquiry, Ashley Alyce Castillo was arrested for Murder under Texas Penal Code 19.02. She was subsequently booked into the Kerr County Jail.  Castillo's bond has been set at $250,000.

The Kerrville Police Department emphasized that the investigation is in its early stages, and no additional information is available at this time.

UPDATE: The murder charge against Ashley Alyce Castillo, 26 years of age, has been dismissed due to new information obtained during the ongoing investigation.  Tampke’s death was reported as a suicide
